Watercolors 1980-1983

I came to photography via painting and what I wanted to achieve was a more plastic interpretation of the photographic image reminiscent of the abstract Impressionists.

This series of images was a huge departure from my carefully constructed black and white images. I began this series using a medium format camera using hand-held long exposures. The Watercolors beginning at #35 and the dyptics (directly above) are some of the first images created using this technique.

The underwater images were shot with a Nikonos 35mm which gave me the ability to create the more brilliant, gelatinous images in the beginning of this series.

They are my personal favorites; I love the raw sensuality of the images.
